In life everyone knows me as Meilin Chong, which resembles my physique, my ‘top-of-the-iceberg’ culture; yet my two other names acknowledge life’s complexities and unveil layers of who I am.
I’m a biracial, bilingual immigrant born in Peru who learned to love words, and embrace all colors of emotions. Always reserved and quiet around outsiders – I stayed for such a long time. Even when I thought I thought I was an extrovert, I hid. But recently, after a lot of life experiences, I am finally showing myself to the world, not for an audience, but to validate myself and tell, write, and track yet another story – my story.
Mi nombre, Meilin Chong, lo usan todos y como muchos han dicho, me sienta el nombre por mi apariencia física tal cual como etiqueta simplemente un aspecto de mi vida; pero cuando usan mi nombre completo, recién pueden empezar a ver más allá de mi cara asiática y aprenderán muchas capas de quien soy.
Nací en Peru, a un padre Chino y una madre Peruana. Crecí bilingüe y con tanta cultura que aprendí antes y después de emigrar aquí. Y aquí fue donde aprendí amar las palabras y el poder que tiene relatar una historia. Siempre he sido reservada, tímida podrían decir. Yo siempre una introvertida, hasta cuando creía que estaba siendo la más sociable. Después de aprender mucho de las situaciones que la vida manda, he decidido ser mas abierta al mundo para sobresalir mis propias expectativas y miedo. Estoy lista para narrar, escribir, y empezar a dejar en el mundo mi marca – mi historia.
